From the Field to the Future

The grant significantly assisted me in implementing cover crops by offsetting the expenses associated with seeds, equipment, and labor... Because of the Grant I was able to plant more acres, experiment with diverse cover crop mixes, improve soil health through reduced erosion and increased organic matter, and enhance water quality by reducing nutrient runoff.

Through my grant from Seed2Shirt I purchased a cotton stalk puller and rolling baskets to aid in incorporating my cover crop by spreading the seed and then pulling the stalks. I'm able to efficiently remove cotton stalks and roots or any other stalk or root such as corn stalks with this one machine in one pass. I can break pest/diseases cycles, save fuel, save time, prepare a clean seed bed and incorporate a winter cover crop. This also reduces my labor, save on inputs, I can use a less horsepower tractor, cut out the use of chemicals creating a better and healthy soil.
