SUMMARY:2024 Black Farm Tour W/ Triangle Bikeworks
DESCRIPTION:Register\n\n\n\nVolunteer\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOur work flourishes through nurturing our community and fostering a legacy that spans across generations. We had the honor of participating in and sponsoring the inspiring Black Farm Tour organized by Triangle Bikeworks\, a nonprofit dedicated to empowering youth by immersing them in the rich tapestry of Black history through the transformative experience of cycling. \n\n\n\nSeed2Shirt is deeply connected to the rich heritage of our ancestors’ soil and land. Our pilot farm\, “The Peoples Freedom Farm\,” is a space we are curating to honor those before us while paying homage through our mission. Empower people who’ve been traditionally marginalized\, create planet-beneficial products and services\, and use our profits for good by supporting programs that change the world. We will be the first stop on the route showcasing our work of rebuilding Afro-indigenous cotton-to-textile ecosystems and trialing growing cotton in sustainable and regenerative ways. \n\n\n\nThis event serves as a fundraiser for Triangle Bikeworks\, an amazing program that empowers young people of color through cycling and education. Halifax County\, Rocky Mount\, Princeville\, and the Buck Leonard home are just a few of the spaces of history that will be explored. \n\n\n\nLast year’s ride…

SUMMARY:Regenerative Agriculture and Textiles Summit 2023
DESCRIPTION:Founder Tameka Peoples will be a speaker at this year’s Regenerative Agriculture and Textiles Summit in DC along with our BLACKollective fellow Kyle Bridgeforth. \n\n\n\nEmploying over 3.4 billion people globally\, the fashion and textiles industry is estimated to generate over $1.7 trillion in 2023. With 87% of fiber input incinerated or disposed in landfills\, the industry makes up 10% of global carbon emissions and is expected to surge more than 50% by 2030. \n\n\n\nAlthough some leading brands are answering calls for more sustainable materials and products\, sustaining the current conditions of our planet is no longer enough. The need to go beyond sustainability and transition towards restoring and regenerating our lands is now paramount. Pressures for change and the climate crisis have significantly increased the need to transition ‘backwards’ to embrace the future of textiles: regenerative agriculture. \n\n\n\nIntroducing the Regenerative Agriculture and Textiles Summit. Through peer-to-peer sharing\, cross-industry collaboration between the textiles and food industries\, and partnership building\, the summit will provide key strategies to accelerate the adoption of regenerative Summit practices. \n\n\n\nBringing together the entire supply chain\, the Summit will demonstrate the need for involvement from all stakeholders whilst addressing key industry challenges and underpinning the value regenerative agriculture has on supporting business operations and hitting climate goals.

SUMMARY:C4 California Farm Tour
DESCRIPTION:From the beginning\, C4 has been about building and honoring relationships\, which are necessary to invest in on-farm ecological health and sourcing farm-forward all the way to customers. This work has been full of challenges and triumphs\, as is the nature of regenerating a localized textile system in California that honors more than just the bottom line. \n\n\n\nWith this spirit\, we’re opening up our annual farm tours this year to non-coalition members. We’re inviting designers\, companies that purchase cotton\, journalists\, and influencers to join us for two days – October 4 + 5 in California’s Central Valley  \n\n\n\nActivities include:  \n\n\n\n\nVisiting all three farm partners growing Climate Beneficial cotton \n\n\n\nScientific soil health and water demos in-field \n\n\n\nTouring a cotton gin \n\n\n\nDiscussions and presentations about farm-forward textile development\, science\, and where we are in the process of evolving our California cotton textile industry to be climate-beneficial (and how you can help shape the work) \n\n\n\nA celebration of the C4 cotton products that are currently available for sale from our C4 coalition partners

SUMMARY:2023 Black Farm Tour W/ Triangle Bikeworks
DESCRIPTION:Seed2Shirt is rooting our work in our ancestors’ soil and land. Through community\, we sprout our work throughout generations. It was beautiful to be a part of and sponsor this year’s Black Farm Tour by Triangle Bikeworks\, a nonprofit invested in connecting youth to Black history through cycling. Our pilot farm\, “The Peoples Freedom Farm\,” was the first stop on the route\, and we loved to see everyone. We showcased our work of rebuilding Afro-indigenous cotton-to-textile ecosystems from Seed2Shirt – how it will start and take root on our land. The tour retraces the steps of our ancestors on the Underground Railroad to Freedom. \n\n\n\nSee the great work of Tillery Resettlement\, Golden Organic Farm\, The Peoples Freedom Farm (Seed2Shirt Pilot Farm)\, Hill Family Farm\, Halifax Underground Railroad\, Black Cotton\, Harlem Brew South\, Triangle Bikework & Xplore Kayak.
